Enjoying Some Time Outside

The weather here in Virginia has been great for this time of year over the last few days. Since I've had a bad case of cabin fever , I went out to enjoy the weather and let my dogs run around. I'm fortunate enough to have 3 ponds within walking distance of the house (OK a hundred yards or so from the house). I was able to make a few casts , but I struck out because the water is still too cold. The ponds all have bass and bluegills in them , with a few crappie and catfish thrown in to keep things interesting. I'm just glad I was able to get out for some fresh air and sunshine!

Click the read more link below to see some pictures. Nothing fancy , but it's close to home. There's also a couple of good looking dogs that had fun today.

The first pond I hit today sits below a smaller pond that feeds into it. One of my friends caught a nice 5 lb. Largemouth out of it a few years back and as far as I know she's still in there.

Pond #1
It's always fun just to go down there and walk around , even when the fish aren't biting.

The " Dam " that holds the upper pond.
In my opinion , these are two cool little farm ponds. I've always liked the way they were made with the top one draining into the lower one.

The upper pond.
The dead tree in the picture above is new since last year. It may have to be taken out eventually because this pond is just too small to have that size tree laying in the middle of it.

From the top of the dam.
My poor little beagle did a lot of running today. It's a shame she didn't jump any rabbits , but she did get some much needed exercise.

Look at that pretty face!
The third pond is a lot bigger than the other two. It has bass , bluegill , crappie and catfish in it. I caught a 13 pound catfish out of it about 10 years ago , which was fun on the small rod I was using.

There was a dock on it at one time , but the weather took it's toll on it and it fell apart. It might get rebuilt eventually.

My favorite spot to fish
This cabin fever is really killing me.

Always on the lookout for snakes.
It's always fun to get outside , whether I catch anything or not. I love to let my dogs run around and let them play. They always like to go with me and I don't mind , it's always good to have someone to go fishing with.

My faithful fishing buddy for the past 11 years.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures. I'm hoping to get more time on the water this year , especially on the boat and in the surf.

Have a great week!

  1. Those are some "fishy" looking ponds. I would be all for exploring them also. Dogs look like they enjoyed their day trip.

  2. Thanks Mel! I love the ponds , they give me a chance to get out and clear my head without having to drive anywhere or spend anything. They've saved my sanity from cabin fever more than once :)

  3. JM, we are SUPPOSED to get a weather parole this weekend as well. I am looking forward to getting out somewhere. Local tidal creeks should have some white perch, something, anything to get out LOL

  4. Thanks for stopping by Captain! I hope you're able to get out and enjoy some warmer weather. Just remember , at this time of year catching anything is just icing on the cake :) I'm so glad spring is almost here.
