Perspective on a Dam

Dams. Some people love em , lots of people hate them because of the damage they have done to fisheries during the years of misguided dam building several decades ago. I'm indifferent. Lots of dams are mainly for flood control and or hydroelectric power generation. I can dig it.

So anyway , I was at a favorite spot over the weekend , and just randomly took a shot or two of the dam. Didn't think they'd be worth using , since I've posted pictures of this same dam here before , but because the dam is undergoing renovations and improvements there just happened to be a crane or two hanging out in front of it.

Perspective. The old concrete monstrosity is bigger than it looks.

Dayum , Dayum , DAM!

Have a good week my friends!

  1. You don't really realize how big that dam is until you enlarge the picture. We'd love to have that much water running out of any of our dams.

    1. I think it averages around 10,000 cfs in the winter , 7,000 or so in Summer. Lots of water for sure. I don't really think it's as much a "Dam" as it is just something to slow the old girl down a bit...

  2. Hi, Josh! Sure puts it into perspective. I know that the Crane is no small piece of equipment. There is some construction going on across the street from where I live and the Crane is intimidating size.

    1. Hey Mel , thanks for stopping by! It does put it into perspective , but I'd really like to go back when the crew is working to get a better shot. I take it for granted because I grew up close to the dam , but it is rather impressive.
